"Your Future Starts At Our Place"
The Gerard Place Community Center, a place of learning, safety and hope.
Building on a decade of successful outcomes, growth in programs and financial strength we now plan to move into the next phase of meeting the evolving needs of our community!
Opening December 2018!
In the 18 years that Gerard Place has worked with residents of this community, we have found through research and discussion that there are three major barriers that prevent people from escaping poverty: lack of affordable transportation to education and training sites, lack of childcare for parents who have young children and very few local employment opportunities.
The Gerard Place Community Center’s purpose is to help eliminate these barriers. This project will create a community anchor for all who are living in the Bailey-Delavan neighborhood of Buffalo’s Eastside. The center will become a community resource that can assist more families as they work toward independence.
The Center will offer Allied Health Training, culinary arts programming, affordable quality childcare and an expanded High School Equivalency program.
Buffalo Public Schools: Adult Education has committed to delivering training for Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Healthcare Aide, careers selected for their potential to provide a career ladder for individuals seeking advancement and employ people in fields indentified as high-demand with in the next decade.
This community center will allow Gerard Place to expand our already existing High School equivalency (HSE) preparation classes. In this community, 30% of residents do not have their high school diploma or HSE, essential milestones that open doors to entry-level employment opportunities.
A partnership with Buffalo Promise Neighborhood Early Childhood Academy, operated by Edu-Kids, will ensure 100 children each year will have access to high quality, affordable childcare. This program and expansion of M & T Bank's Buffalo Promise Neighborhood, Early Childhood Academy gives underserved families in our community the resources they need to be successful in school from cradle to career.
