Celebrating 20 years of service to the East Side of Buffalo, NY, Gerard Place is the creation of a group of Women Religious who wanted to tackle the growing problem of homeless women and children in our community. Our first family came on November 20, 2000. Now 20 years later over 320 families have resided at Gerard Place. Our mission and goals for our families are the same 20 yeas later: give them the skills necessary to become as self-sufficient as possible.
In 2009 we opened an Education building for the entire community. In this building we implement large High School Equivalency and Literacy programs as well as Life Skills and basic needs donations for everyone. Our Infant Safe Sleep class has had over 300 participants.
In 2019 we opened a Community Center that includes the Buffalo Promise Neighborhood Early Childhood Academy by EduKids, Inc. for infants to four and a half years old as well as Workforce Development programs in Allied Health and Culinary Arts careers.
Because this area is a food desert we created a monthly mobile pantry program with partner FeedMore as well as a two times per week take our meal with partner Friends of Night People for anyone in need. We are grateful to our donors who ensure that our programs and services can continue to serve the very poor people in our surrounding community.
